Dr Michael bullen and Dr Stephen Gill from our Barwon centre of orthopedic research (BCORE) have published a commentary on a 10 year follow up on a study looking at subacromial decompression of the shoulder titled “Arthroscopic subacromial decompression for subacromial pain syndrome“. The original paper showed that subacromial decompression conferred little benefit overall. However, it may retain a limited role in certain shoulder conditions, and the diagnostic uncertainty of “subacromial pain syndrome” should be addressed to allow better targeted therapy. Being asked to write a commentary on such a key article is a great vote of confidence in our Geelong research team !!!
