During the COVID pandemic messenger RNA vaccines have saved millions of lives . We at Geelong Orthopaedics have gratefully received our Pfizer mRNA vaccine boosters in the last few months. We are excited about the potential for mRNA technology to treat many conditions beyond COVID. Research at the Mayo Clinic in the USA in rats has shown the chemically modified MRNA can be used to increase bone morphogenic protein. This protein stimulates bone formation, leading to improved healing of bone and may be critical for treating fractures in the future. There is much work to be done before it reaches human trials but congratulations to the team and to all those who worked so hard over the years to develop this amazing mRNA technology for the improvement of human health.
