Prof Page has just had an article published that highlights a unique complication of radial head replacement with a pyrocarbon bearing surface. This is a specially smooth surface, but is more brittle than the traditional metal joint replacements. One of our patients was tackled playing football and broke the replacement. We summarised outcomes of all of our patients with pyrocarbon radial head replacement and we highlighted with specific complication. Prof Page is the first in the world to publish this. We hope to further educate the orthopaedic community so we can better inform patients about appropriate limits, benefits and risks of surgery, in our ongoing quality improvement process.
