In our recent Geelong Orthopaedics Group journal club we discussed a landmark Australian paper to which we contributed. It was published in the world famous JAMA (journal of the american medical association). It showed that enoaxaparin was more effective than aspirin in reducing clotting in the leg veins after hip and knee replacement. Clots are rare but can cause localised pain and in severe cases death if the travel up to the lungs. Their prevention is important after surgery and Geelong Orthopaedics hip and knee surgeons contributed their expertise to this study. We would like to thank our patients who agreed to be involved in helping to establish this important result.
